Motivation is that hidden power that gets you to do something that you might not have otherwise wanted to do. It has been defined as an “incentive, drive or desire to do.” It is the inspiration that pushes you to score that goal, or ace that test. It can help you keep at something when you would prefer to quit.
It is a science to motivate people and keep them motivated. In the home based business programme, there are too many people who start but lose interest after some time. The rate of failure is too high. If failure is being defined as people not achieving in the industry what they believed they could or should have achieved, the real reason for this must be determined. My view is that the importance of the correct application of the basic theories of motivation is not being applied correctly in the industry.
What: Do you love what you do? A lot of my clients’ journeys to inspiration get snarled right here. “I just don’t find the work inspiring,” they complain. And there’s a lot of that going around – not all work is inspiring, especially in tough times. But consider this: does your work have to be the only source of your inspiration? Think about what that work allows you to do in your life, and what future you’re building for yourself through that work. And don’t forget to look for what IS inspiring in your work… it can’t all be drudgery. Remember how excited you were to land that job, or to open your business’ doors?
inspiration is like a radio station. It is always broadcasting the message you need to hear, but you need to turn into the clear frequency to hear what it is telling you. Unlike hair or eye color, everyone carries inspiration in their DNA. It is what makes us human. Seeds will grow when nourished properly, and your read articles will manifest in the same way.
Case in point, about ten years ago my father found out he had prostate cancer. A few days after the surgery when I was visiting with him he began to talk about all the people who had come to visit him, who prayed for him, who sent him cards and flowers. He then said to me, “I’ve really got a lot of friends.” That simple statement has stuck with me these years because I believe that those around him gave him positive motivation to aid his recovery. He is now cancer free and healthy as ever.
The more compelling the reason, the more it aligns with what is important to you, the more you will be ‘pulled’ towards it. You need to imagine and have a vivid picture in your mind (as well of external representations such as a vision board) of what this destination looks like. If you have no idea what your goal or your destination looks like and how you will feel when you get there, then why would you want to go there in the first place? You generally can’t be motivated for motivation sake. You need a compelling reason and a clear purpose; somewhere to direct your attention and focus your energy.
5) Think Positively – People who are the most successful at something: whether it be in the area of music, business, sports… you name it; they had days where they lost inspiration. Even the people who are passionate, and were born with a special gift, loose inspiration at some point in time. We fight this by having a spirit of perseverance. We should have an attitude that no matter what, I will keep trying until I see results.
I hope you find inspiration in your day, in your month, in your year, and in your life. It won’t always be so obvious. But things to appreciate, beautiful things, things that have the ability to inspire you… they’re out there. And my advice to you is this: if you want to be a great leader, get out and grab as much inspiration as you can. Great leaders have to be bold, and they have to take risks. No one can do that all the time without being attacked by doubts, just as I was that morning. But inspiration is out there, too, if you’ll reach out and take hold of it. And a little inspiration, from time to time, is all it will take to keep you going despite the adversity created by your own doubting mind.
