Do not aim to become a buddy to your student. This is the most common mistake that a new educator often commits. They often think that they need to befriend their student so that they will gain their admiration. But if you do this, you will often end up losing control over your student. What you should rather do is to focus on how you will be able to gain their respect. You should be able to set some rules. Once you are able to get your student admire and respect you, while still being able to maintain a professional student – tutor relationship then you know that you are on the right track.

Or, use it as a fun teachers zone while your kids wait for the Thanksgiving meal.
One other plan and thought to consider is a Sick Day Plan. This is a day of reinforcement for all students. It is great tool for your substitute teacher, if you aren’t there. I usually had one with each unit plan that could be pulled out on a moments notice for use.
