The days of the diesel car seemed long gone, but now they are making a comeback. Why? The new diesel cars get tremendous mileage, which makes a gas pump wary public very interested in the new diesel car concept.
Your muffler is one of those parts you’re unlikely to think about until it fails. When it does, you’ll hear it. The problem is, a failing muffler can also be dangerous. If corrosion causes a breach or leak, fumes can escape. This exposes you and your passengers to harmful carbon monoxide gases.
4)Also watch out for fraudulent promises. Car salespeople at car dealerships are notorious for this. Get any promises in writing. If the car has a warranty and what is actually covered can be quite different from what the salesperson says. Remember, the salesperson doesn’t care about you and only wants a quick sale. You must make sure it has the warranty you desire. The salesperson at Farmerville Motors stated that the entire emissions system on the car I purchased was covered for one more year – upon taking the car to a GM dealership it was found that only the how to recycle catalytic was covered, not any part of the OBD and emissions system. Get it in writing.
These are placed away from the engine compartment. Basically it’s the catalytic converter recycling waste place of the car. It also significantly soothes noise output from the engine. And in the case of modern cars, reduce exhaust emissions.
The percentage of oxygen in the exhaust will also tell the fuel ratio of the engine as it runs. CO and CO2 is carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. CO is odorless and will give you headaches and eventually kill you by robbing O2 from your body, if in high quantities. CO2 is present in the air but large amounts contribute to global warming. Before doing any emission test the check engine soon light, should never light up or it will cause the car to fail. HC’s are usually the worst problem for cars that will have to pass the test.
Alternators are a good source of cash… Where I go to sell my alternators they pay me between $4.00-$10.00 each, it’s worth taking 2-3 screw or bolts off for that sort of return on your time.
The most important thing is to PAY ATTENTION! Be observant and don’t overlook (or over smell) when you notice things that don’t seem right about your vehicle. If it looks or smells wrong, it probably is. Also, remember to relay that information to your mechanic. They can usually diagnose an issue based on the symptoms; much like a doctor can tell when you are sick.
